Georgia
Scalliet

531e sociétaire

Joined the Comédie-Française on the 28th of September 2009. Became the 531st sociétaire on the 1st of January 2017

Following several traineeships, first in France with Catherine Dasté at the Maison Jacques Copeau, then at the Phillips Exeter Academy in the United States, and finally at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in the United Kingdom, Georgia Scalliet continued her training at the Institut des arts de diffusion in Belgium before being admitted to ENSATT (École nationale des arts et techniques du théâtre) in 2006.

Georgia Scalliet made her debut at the Comédie-Française on the 28th of September 2009, by playing Irina in Chekhov’s Three Sisters under the direction of Alain Françon. She was presented with the 2011 Molière Award for Best Female Newcomer. She reunited with Françon for Goldoni’s Villegiatura Trilogy at the Salle Richelieu in 2012, and later outside the Comédie-Française, where he offered her the role of Marie Steuber in Botho Straus’ Le Temps et la Chambre, shown at the Strasbourg Théâtre National at the end of 2016 and the following year on tour.
At the Comédie-Française, Georgia Scalliet has often been cast in the classical repertoire. She has played in Molière’s Misanthrope and La Critique de l’École des femmes directed by Clément Hervieu-Léger; Les Femmes savantes by Bruno Bayen; and Amphitryon by Jacques Vincey. Anne Kessler directed her in Marivaux’s La Double Inconstance and Stéphane Braunschweig cast her as Junie in Racine’s Britannicus.
With regard to Shakespeare, she played in Andrés Lima’s staging of The Merry Wives of Windsor, and interpreted Cressida in Jean-Yves Ruf’s staging of Troilus and Cressida. In March 2014, on the occasion of 450th anniversary of the British playwrighter, Georgia Scalliet participated in a France Culture Radio reading of Richard III directed by Anne Kessler. Jérôme Deschamps selected her to play Viviane in Feydeau’s Un fil à la patte. Denis Marleau cast her in Innocence by the contemporary author Dea Loher.

She became the 531st sociétaire of the Comédie-Française on the 1st of January 2017. Robert Carsen offered her the role of Prospero’s daughter Miranda in Shakespeare’s The Tempest, while Clément Hervieu-Léger cast her as Wendla Bergmann in Frank Wedekind’s The Awakening of Spring.

Based on a text by Ingmar Bergmann, Georgia Scalliet developed Après la répétition, which she interpreted with tg STAN’s Franck Vercruyssen in 2013. As a result of that collaboration, she co-founded the Liv Collectiv with Alma Palacios, Ruth Vega Fernandez and Pauline Moulène. Their first project, based on Mishima’s Madame de Sade and the work of Ingmar Bergmann, was presented at the Théâtre de la Bastille in 2015.

Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi directed her with other actors from the Company in an adaptation of Chekhov’s Three Sisters broadcast on Arte in September 2015. At the same time, she had the starring role in The Scent of Mandarin (L’Odeur de la mandarine), a feature film by Gilles Legrand.

During the 2018/2019 season, Georgia Scalliet can be seen in Shakespeare’s La Nuit des rois ou Tout ce que vous voulez by Thomas Ostermeier, Federico Fellini’s Le Voyage de G. Mastorna by Marie Rémond and in the reruns of Racine’s Britannicus by Stéphane Braunschweig and Molière’s Le Misanthrope by Clément Hervieu-Léger.
