Nâzim
Boudjenah

pensionnaire

Nâzim Boudjenah was directed by Patrice Chéreau in Henry VI/ Richard III (Fragments), by Daniel Benoin in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, by Éric Vigner in Corneille’s L'Illusion comique and by Jean-Baptiste Sastre in Jean Genet’s Haute surveillance prior to graduating from the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique de Paris in 1999, where he was taught by Catherine Hiegel and Philippe Adrien. In 2001, he joined Jean-Baptiste Sastre to work on Christopher Marlowe’s Tamburlaine the Great (Tamerlan Le Grand). Since 2000, he has been directed, among others, by Simone Benmussa in Luc Bassong's Matricule, by Christophe Perton in Edward Bond’s Lear and by Hubert Colas in Sarah Kane's Cleansed (Purifiés). In 2003, Olivier Py offered him a part in his staging of Paul Claudel’s The Satin Slipper. The director and the actor went on to work on a number of projects together: Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher again by Claudel, Seven Against Thebes (Les Sept contre Thèbes) and The Oresteia (L’Orestie) by Aeschylus, as well as Les Vainqueurs and Les Enfants de Saturne by Olivier Py. When the latter was appointed director of Festival d’Avignon in 2015, he entrusted Nâzim Boudjenah with the role of Edmund in Shakespeare’s King Lear, which he staged in the Palais des Papes.

On the 1st of January 2010, Nâzim Boudjenah joined the ranks of the Comédie-Française as pensionnaire. He first played in Euripides’ Herakles (La Folie d’Héraclès) by Christophe Perton, as well as in Molière’s The Miser (L’Avare) by Catherine Hiegel. Galin Stoev directed him as Valère in Tartuffe, another play by Molière. Nâzim Boudjenah has been cast in many Shakespeare’s plays. He interpreted Iago in Othello by Léonie Simaga, Lord Riversin Richard III by Anne Kessler at the Maison de la Radio, Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet by Éric Ruf, who had previously directed him in Ibsen's Peer Gynt. He played in A Respectable Wedding (La Noce) by Isabel Osthues, The Threepenny Opera (L’Opéra de quat’sous) by Laurent Pelly, and The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui (La Résistible ascension d’Arturo Ui) by Katharina Thalbach, all three by Bertolt Brecht. Denis Podalydès directed him in Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac and Victor Hugo’s Lucrezia Borgia. He made several forays in contemporary theatre with Fausto Paravidino’s La Maladie de la famille M., Dea Loher’s Innocence directed by Denis Marleau, Saadallah Wannous’s Rituals of Signs and Transformations (Rituel pour une métamorphose) directed by Sulayman Al-Bassam and with Nikolai Gogol’s The Marriage (Le Mariage) directed by Lilo Baur. He reunited with Lilo Baur again on Sergi Belbel’s play After the Rain (Après la pluie). In 2017, he directed the actors from the Company in Intérieur by Maurice Maeterlink at the Studio-Théâtre.

In 2005, Nâzim Boudjenah established Le Théâtre du Lion Vert company, while at the Maison de la Poésie he directed and interpreted La Cantate à trois voix, Les Odes by Paul Claudel, Les Illuminations by Arthur Rimbaud and Une saison en enfer –a show taken over by the Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier as part of the Carte blanche program. Along with appearing in television films and series, Nâzim Boudjenah performed in L’autre monde, a picture by Merzak Allouache released in 2001.

During the 2018/2019 season, Nâzim Boudjenah will be playing in Jack London’s Construire un feu by Marc Lainé, Les Oubliés (Alger-Paris) written and directed by Julie Bertin and Jade Herbulot – Le Birgit Ensemble and in the reruns of Victor Hugo’s Lucrezia Borgia by Denis Podalydès and Georges Feydeau’s The Free Exchange Hotel (L’Hôtel du Libre-Échange) by Isabelle Nanty.
