Mais quelle Comédie ! ・ Comédie-Française

“We dreamt up Mais quelle Comédie! (What a Show!) in the wake of La Comédie continue! (The Show Goes On), our WebTV created during the lockdown”, say Serge Bagdassarian and Marina Hands.

Beyond the diversity of our repertoire and the multiplicity of our theatrical adventures, we revealed our memories, our little inner worlds, our childhood stories of budding actors, our desires, our frustrations, our accomplishments and our failures for all to see... We spoke of our rituals and the drive we share. Somewhat as if the Comédie-Française had looked at itself in the mirror through the electronic lenses of our tablets, mobile phones and computers. This is precisely what we want to rekindle on the stage of the Salle Richelieu. To hear the actors evoking the “Simul et Singulis” of their lives as artists.

We imagined composing this show with choreographed ensemble numbers and duets or solos with songs, texts or testimonies borrowed from the repertoire we love (from Bob Fosse to Cole Porter, Zizi Jenmaire, the Monty Python and many others). Mais quelle Comédie! will be a festive musical show built around the artists who make up the Troupe today. A moment of sharing around our history, our art, and our love of theatre and music.”
