  • Rimbaud’s Cahiers de Douai, which are part of this year’s baccalauréat curriculum, are a tribute to the poet’s teenage self. The first 22 poems by this 16-year-old were gathered and published under this title a mere 49 years after they were written. Some of them are now considered the epitome of his poetry, including Le Dormeur du Val (The Sleeper in the Valley) and other less-known pieces, which all render the rush of adolescence, from love and desire to new found political awareness, from social satire to the breaking of set writing codes. This exceptional session gathering multidisciplinary artist Abd El Malik, professor Bettina Ghio, and sociétaire Thierry Hancisse is a tribute to the young poet, to his courage, to the path he drew for himself in spite of obstacles, undertaking the ways his vital energy can continue to be passed on today.
