Art majeur
Guillaume Barbot’s Art Majeur premiered in the spring of 2024 at the Studio-Théâtre. And who better to talk about it than its director? “This show is a full album, featuring songs as the lead, as the main plot, key action, and word-releasing trigger.”

  • As a person born between three walls of records, brought up to music and especially to songs, Barbot naturally began questioning its status in our daily lives. Could it change the course of human existence, or even change the world? He delves into the matter through four writers tasked with telling the musical history of four of our musically and dramatically gifted performers.
Conducted and accompanied by Pierre-Marie Braye-Weppe, Barbot’s age-old accomplice, the performers sing twenty of the best tunes ingrained in our collective mind. New tracks, famous tracks, forgotten tracks, secret or ritual songs, family hits or memory-filled choruses; the Troupe performers, who are well-versed in music and singing, dig into the major aspects of this art. On stage, a large wooden conch immerses the audience inside a musical instrument or recording studio, and shelters drums, a piano, a synthesizer, an accordion, guitars, a violin, turning the performers into a music band celebrating the swinging of words, voices, and instruments.
